Guardian Angels of York, PA

After 30 years as promoters of safety and empowerment, The Guardian Angels continue to teach our communities and schools to take control and responsibility of both their environment and their lives.  Their community is global as they reach citizens in over 100 cities in 11 countries.  They aim to motivate citizens to create a safer, more powerful future through our programs focused on personal safety, civic contribution, cyber security, and school violence prevention programs.

The York, PA Chapter began patrolling the city streets in October 2008.  Patrols act as a visual deterrent to criminal activity, and will mobilize for those in need of physical protection or medical attention.  All active members are proficient in self-defense and hand-to-hand combat, and are certified in providing first aid or CPR.

Origins of the Guardian Angels

In the 1970's, Curtis Sliwa's Magnificent 13 patrolled the NYC subway systems, which over time became the Guardian Angels in 1979.  Below is an early promotional poster for the Guardian Angels.  The result, after 30 years, is wordwide volunteer organization that protects other civilians around the world.

In pursuit of a more peaceful York

All martial artists and warriors understand that their skills must remain sharpened, at the ready, and available so that they can be offered to those in need.  All active members and new recruits of the York Chapter of the Guardian Angels repetitively participate in martial arts training, primarily Korean Hapkido, which includes varying joint locks and pressure point controls, along with grappling, restraining and striking methods.  Angels patrol the city during the days and evenings and are always willing to offer a helping hand.
