High Red Belt Technical Requirements

The High Red belt, or 1st Gup, follows the Red belt.  This color also communicates a warning, to both the wearer and other students, that the skills of this taekwondo student can potentially cause damage or harm.  Students over 5 years old are expected to know all of the below material to be eligible for promotion to 1st Dan Black belt, as well as the material from previous belts.


Open Hand Poomse (Forms)
Taegeuk Pal Jang, 1st Gup poomse, symbolizing kohn, or Earth
 
 
Chung Moo
Hapkido (unarmed self-defence)
Handgun disarming (3 total)
High Red belt step sparring (3 total)
  

Striking Techniques

Single uppercut strike
Ridge hand strike

 

Blocking Techniques

Double forearm block
Double knife hand block
C-block
Middle cross block
